About the Print Room
The Print Room is designed to be used to investigate the similarity and differences between prints from the same negatives or variants of image collections, by overlaying the two images in a way based on matching features. Whether to investigate possible damage, or to quickly compare the effects of choices made by the photographer or print maker, we hope that the comparison tool will be a useful tool for analysis.
The tool works by first finding landmark features of the images, visible when you select "compare differences," and then fitting these landmark features together using statistical tools. If a good fit is found, we show the images overlaid, so that you can "flicker" between the two images in a way that highlights similarities and differences.
