Andreas Feininger's 1946 portrait of fellow photographer Carl Mydans was taken with Feiningers 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 Automatic Rolleiflex with a 75 mm Zeiss Tessar f/3.5 lens. Exposure on Kodak Super-XX film was 1/5 second at f/22. Feininger's close approach to his subject was enabled by the Rollei's auxiliary Proxar lens.[1]This photograph was self-selected as one of his finest in his 1986 monograph, Andreas Feininger: Photographer.[2]
